Dementia

  What is dementia?

Dementia is a disease which includes several types of conditions. These conditions include for example loss of memory, decline in problem solving skills, problems in communicating with others.  Alzheimer's is the most common cause of dementia.

Cause of dementia?
​Dementia is caused by damage to or loss of nerve cells and their connections in the brain. Depending on the area of the brain that's affected by the damage, dementia can affect people differently and cause different symptoms.
How do you know if someone has dementia?
  •  Difficulty communicating or finding words.

  • Subtle short-term memory changes

  • Problem with completing normal tasks.

  •  Confusion.

  •  A failing sense of direction.

  •  Difficulty finding the right words.

  • Confusion and disorientation

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

  • Problem with planning and organizing

  • Inappropriate behavior

  • Paranoia.

  • Agitation.

  • Hallucinations

Mindfulness using Indian Classical Music to reduce dementia 

I have observed certain ragas to have positive effects on people exhibiting symptoms of dementia. In sessions with senior citizens I have observed many of them showing much more control,  being more cheerful and more focused. Many of the participants showed improvement in communication and articulating their thoughts and improvement in memory.
